Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa Texas
1136 PM CST Tuesday Dec 2 2008

Discussion...

&&

Aviation...
VFR conditions are expected areawide through Wednesday.
Strong low level winds will persist through 03/15z at all but
Carlsbad. Therefore will include a wind shear group of 40kt at
these sites. Thereafter...gusty surface winds will pick up and
veer to the northwest...then north when a cold front moves south
through the area. Expect Fort Stockton to have northwest
surface winds of 20kt through 03/20z ahead of the front...while
several tafs sites will see a more brief period of 20kt north
winds behind the front.

Previous discussion... /issued 838 PM CST Tuesday Dec 2 2008/

Discussion...
updated to add wind shear to tafs.

Aviation...
low level winds were on the increase in response to approach of
shortwave trough from New Mexico. Forecasts indicating 35 to 45kt 850 mb
winds speeds consistently overnight...generally along and east of
the Pecos River. Although the winds may mix down periodically
think this will be brief and isolated. Therefore...have updated
the Midland...Wink...Fort Stockton and Pecos tafs to include low
level wind shear from 280 degrees around 40kt from 03/06z until
03/15z. VFR conditions are expected otherwise.
