NWS Forecaster Discussion
156 fxus64 klch 110814 afdlch Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles la 314 am CDT Sat Oct 11 2008 Discussion...patchy fog continued to develop across the region due as radiational cooling and light to calm winds prevailed. Thin patchy areas of fog will burn off this morning. Expect redevelopment Saturday night into Sunday morning basically under the same conditions. Looking at the bigger landscape...upper level high pressure with surface ridging across the region will continue to provide excellent outdoor weather today and Sunday. An upper level storm system across the western United States will push into the Central Plains Sunday night into Monday. This system will not have major impact through Monday as high pressure in the upper levels holds firmly in place. Meanwhile...the GFS model shows an upper level inverted trough moving westward along the northern Gulf Coast from Florida on Sunday into Louisiana by Monday morning. This disturbance may bring isolated to scattered showers on Monday. A weak front will push into the region on Wednesday reinforcing a east to northerly flow that will be already in place at that time. The front will wash out north of the coastline on Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible as the front stalls and washes out Wednesday and Thursday. High pressure will settle back in next Friday just in time for the weekend. && Aviation...patchy fog early this morning will burn off shortly after sunrise. Brief MVFR conditions is possible in the patchy fog areas...otherwise VFR conditions to prevail. Patchy fog will redevelop later Saturday night into Sunday morning basically repeating the same pattern. && Marine...high pressure will continue to hold over the northwest Gulf today with generally tame seas and southerly winds. Sunday will bring slight higher seas and winds as southerly flow increases in response to low pressure developing across Colorado and Oklahoma. && Preliminary point temps/pops... klch 85 68 86 68 86 / 10 10 10 10 20 kbpt 87 65 85 70 85 / 10 10 10 10 20 kaex 88 66 85 66 84 / 10 10 10 10 20 klft 84 66 83 67 82 / 10 10 10 10 20 && Lch watches/warnings/advisories... la...none.
