Area forecast discussion

Discussion...as of 7:45 PM PDT Wednesday...with an exception to 
local wildfire smoke clear skies are observed over the area. The 00z 
Oakland upper air sounding shows a deep layer of dry air. A strong 
northerly pressure gradient continues near 6 mb from acv to sfo. 


Overall high temperatures today varied either up or down by 5 to 6 
degrees compared to yesterdays readings. Pinnacles National Monument 
had one of the hotter temperatures recording a high of 100f. 


The main item for discussion tonight regarding the short term is how 
the latest models are forecasting The Four Corners high. It appears 
in general that the western extent of the high covering California 
will be slightly weaker than earlier model runs showed. In turn this 
would equate to less heating...but enough to put temperatures close 
to climatology for July. Thus the Special Weather Statement regarding 
a potential build up of heat for late in the week was allowed to 
expire today. 


No updates are expected tonight.

Aviation discussion...as of 5:15 PM Wednesday...clear skies will 
prevail across the region this evening with the exception of some 
smoke from the fires burning in the vicinity. VFR conditions expected 
at all terminal this evening with the exception of ksts that will 
experience some decrease in the visibility due to smoke. Temporary 
ceilings anticipated over Bay area terminals during the early morning 
hours Thursday...otherwise mainly clear. Ksjc will remain clear 
through the forecast period. Ceilings will return to the Monterey 
Bay area around midnight tonight. Clearing for kmry and ksns is 
anticipated around 17z Thursday.
